Advantages of Wood Sandblasting

Thorough Removal of Coatings

Old paints, varnishes, and dirt are effectively removed without chemicals.

Natural Wood Texture

Sandblasting emphasizes the grain and allows for a rustic or restored look of the wood.

Preparation for New Treatment

The wooden surface is optimally prepared for painting, oiling, or varnishing.

What is wood sandblasting?

Wood sandblasting is a process in which the surface of the wood is mechanically treated with the help of an abrasive material and compressed air. It is an effective way of cleaning, removing old coatings (paint, varnish) and structuring the wooden surface, which emphasizes the natural texture of the wood.

This technique is often used for:

  • restoration of old furniture,

  • renovation of wooden ceilings and beams,

  • preparing wood for re-varnishing or oiling,

  • decorative projects (vintage look, rustic style).

How does wood sandblasting work?

The wood sandblasting process is carried out with the help of special abrasive agents, which are directed onto the surface of the wood with a strong stream of compressed air. This process gently but effectively removes old coatings, dirt, and at the same time emphasizes the natural structure of the wood. Depending on the condition of the surface and the desired appearance, we use different sandblasting techniques:

  • Sandblasting with glass beads – a very precise method that allows for gentle cleaning and equalizing the wooden surface. It is suitable for fine surfaces and decorative purposes, where we want to preserve the natural appearance of the wood.

  • Sandblasting with garnet sand – a coarser technique for removing stubborn coatings and dirt. It is ideal for processing old wood, wooden beams, floors or furniture, where we want a pronounced wood structure.

  • Dry ice (CO₂) or soda blasting – more modern approaches without abrasion, which are gentle to the surface and suitable for restoring sensitive wooden elements without damage.

Each technique is chosen according to the type of wood, its preservation and the final effect that the customer wants to achieve – from a rustic look to a completely cleaned and prepared surface for a new coating.
